Literature Text
You play tic-tac-toe with my emotions
Full of x's and o's as you cross out my heart
With x's across its beating veins.
Full of x's and o's as you cross out my heart
With x's across its beating veins.

Cold Dark Love
Cold Dark Love
A cold wind blows,
Through the silence of a soul
And the pain that it feels,
No-one knows...
Lost and forgotten,
Struggling to remain,
But it can't find it's way,
Through the tears and the rain...
No-one understands,
And no-one really cares,
And the silence...
Is more than it can bear
A cold dark feeling,
Fills a broken heart
In the absence of emotion,

What it wanted the most,
It can never have
And it can't remember,
The good things that it had
A dark cloud hovers,
Over the head of one betrayed
Wishing he had left,
And not stayed
Wishing he

This was short, graphic and to the point.
I am seldom a fan of "spoken word" poetry, because it seems so easy, I mean - who doesn't have a story to tell, and how much easier is it to tell when you don't have to worry about cadence and rhyme?
BUT, like some all the other art forms on DA, this one has it's pearls and it's sow's ears, and I found this one a pearl!
It may be because Lucky Lisa is on my watchlist, and thus, I know that's she's not as lucky in love and that this was written in tears and blood, so to speak.
But it's also because the length and flat tone combined with a really graphic verbal image to provide a kind of "punch, punch, kick" feel that brought an emotional response to me as a reader - which is what (in my opinion) poetry is supposed to do.
In closing, I'll point out that I read another by this writer today that I couldn't critique, because it made me too blue.
I can't think of higher praise for a writer - LMAO
